Jumping Off Points from The Snarky Quilter

While we art quilters, or at least this one, would like to think all our work springs fresh from our creative minds, sometimes already made sources give us a head start. Like cheater cloth, fabric that mimics the look of patchwork but only needs quilting, I have used a tea towel and motifs from a bedsheet to do the heavy lifting for two of my current projects.

Because I follow Clare Youngs, a talented collagist and print maker, on Instagram, I learned she had designed a tea towel for Werkshoppe, a company that prints original artwork on products like puzzles ...

Whoopsies! from Quilt Doodle Doodles

What's cuter then a little baby's butt, well a bunny butt. Whoopsies! Little bunny is stuck in the flowerpot! Who can resist the cuteness of that fluffy cotton ball tail? I just had to draw one up to do heat n bond applique with. The bunnies usually play havoc with my garden so I have a bunny proof fence now. All of my perennials are bunny and deer proof so that I can enjoy the blooms too! But the bunnies have been known to dig up and eat my potted plants that I have on my deck. The ...

St. Patty's Day Fun! from Quilt Doodle Doodles...

This is a festive St. Patty's Day design that I made last year. It's a fun fusible applique design and I really enjoyed making it. I bet if you dig thru your fabric, you can find some green.... leprechaun green fabric. I made my leprechaun with a white beard, but a red/orange beard would be very cute too! I used fabrics from my Marcus Fabrics stash. (Scrap Heap and Shadings, both by Laura Berringer)

Following the pattern directions, I traced out the design onto the paper side of my fusible web and then ironed it onto the ...

A Little Leprechaun from Quilt Doodle Doodles

St. Patty's Day is right around the corner, and I love applique, so I came up with a cute little Leprechaun to decorate my kitchen with.  I was surprised as to how quick and easy it was to sew together.

I first appliqued St. Patty on a tea towel...

I gathered some left-over green fabric and made a cute ruffle for on the bottom of my towel...
I then used some left over binding and used it to trim off the ruffle and make a tie at the top of the towel, (it's sorta ruffles too) I tied ...

Snowmen Love! from Quilt Doodle Doodles

I Love snowmen!

It's that time of year that love is in the air.... so, I put out this sweet design out in my kitchen. I think it's perfect for this time of year! Now that all of my Christmas decorations are tucked away it's time to decorate for Valentine's Day. Let me show you how I made it....

Here I have all my pieces layered onto my towel and ironed down.

Typically, I use brown thread to applique around everything, but I wanted a softer look for my Valentine design. I matched up my fabric ...

Be My Valentine Gnome from Quilt Doodle Doodles

When I put away all of the Christmas decorations this year, I decided to leave my gnomes out to decorate the house for the rest of the winter. I love gnomes and actually leave a couple up all year round. Gnomes remind me of my dad, he had a set of gnomes that stood in the front of the family home for years. Dad was also 100% Norwegian. So when ever I see a gnome, I think of dad. Well, I just had to make up another gnome design for Valentine's Day. I'm thinking of putting this one ...

Two Woodland Bears... from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Ever since our vacation last year when I saw a mama bear with her three cubs I have been in love with bears. I'm excited to go up north again to Northern Minnesota in hopes that I will see a bear again. Don't worry, I don't plan on getting up close and personal in my encounter. I don't plan on searching for these big animals. I hoping for a chance sighting while in the boat or driving in the car. These clumsy creatures fascinate me and was the inspiration for two new fusible applique patterns. Let ...
